Making memories while we WAIT! ? Surviving Motherhood

by Kimberly on September 28, 2012

It?s HARD to be patient. In a world where everything is instant gratification and scheduled c-sections and inductions waiting for this baby is not easy. It felt like we had our lives on hold last week leading up to our due date and then once it passed we thought we would go crazy ?waiting? with every twinge and contraction for her to make her debut so we had to get back to somewhat of a normal routine. As of today, baby girl is 4 days late but I know she will come in her own perfect timing! Luke has been the sweetest little guy and I?ve been more focused on spending the last few days just the two of us and enjoying the one on one time with him. I know our world will be turned up side down once this baby arrives and it will take time to get into a new family routine once she?s here!

I?ve been taking Luke on little daily surprises each day this week while we pass time waiting for his lil sister. We?ve had a lot of fun and I can tell he?s really needed the extra attention lately when everything has already started revolving around the new baby. I haven?t felt up to do our usual classes or been able to get down on the floor with him and play like we used to so he?s loved these surprises!

On Wednesday we jumped in the car and headed over to Run, Jump and Play after lunch and then went for ice cream after ? it was a sweet treat and so nice to let him play and run around on a rainy day with out any time constraints. Yesterday Julian had the great idea of taking him to see Finding Nemo in 3D at the cinema and he was SO excited?perfect for another dreary rainy day! We usually have errands or classes or other scheduled things to do so it?s been fun to do some things out of the ordinary and just have FUN.

This morning I woke up early and headed down stairs to have pancakes made for Luke when he woke up at 7:30. The look on his face was priceless ?who are you and what have you done with my Mommy?!? Anyone who knows me knows that I am NOT a morning person. When Julian and Luke came down this morning to me singing with pancakes they thought I had officially lost my mind! Usually, Julian comes downstairs with Luke and then I end up coming down around 8am and being a vegetable until about 9am, after I?ve had coffee and time to wake up. I still don?t know how people can be so happy in the morning ? I couldn?t do it every morning but it was great fun to surprise the boys and see them so surprised to see me dancing and singing in the kitchen this morning?totally worth it! All morning Luke has said ?thank you for breakfast Mommy? and telling me how much he loves his mama so I know it meant a lot to him?mission accomplished!

What have you done to surprise your kids and do something out of the ordinary with your family? Doesn?t it feel great to throw the ?rule book? out the window sometimes and just do something FUN with the kids? Those days are the memory makers, aren?t they?!
